Downloading and installing a program is usually performed in a two-step process. When you download a program from the Internet, you are copying it onto your local computer. The file you download is usually not just the application that you will run; rather, it is an installation program that will "install" the application to your computer. Once the installation program is downloaded, it must be run from your computer to install the application. If you have the option to run an installation program from its current location, however, you can save a step and simply run the installation program.
File Download Window
Unless you have previously told your web browser to
always download executable (.EXE) files, you should see the File Download window
shown on the right or one similar to it. This window gives you the option
to either Save the AltaNet installation program to your disk or to Run the
installation program in its current location (on Alta's server). Unless
you plan to install AltaNet on several computers, we recommend that you
select Run this program from its current location.
If you don't see this screen, it means
that your system has been preset to always "save" the
program. In this case, you need to remember (write down) the name of
the file where the program is going to be saved. You will need to
run the saved installation program after it has been
downloaded. |
Security Warning Window Once the download is complete and your browser attempts to run the installation program, you should see this Security Warning, or one similar to it. This means that the installation program has not been verified with a third party. Verifying the program helps to protect you from installing a virus on your computer that is masquerading as a legitimate application. If you receive the installation program from anywhere besides Alta Health Networks, you have no guarantee and should choose "No." Otherwise, you must choose "Yes" to proceed with the installation.
(Remember, if you saved the installation
program to your computer, you will have to run it by clicking on its
icon in the directory you saved it to.) |
Running The AltaNet Installation
The installation program will step you through the process of installing AltaNet. After the welcome screen, you will be asked to accept the license agreement for AltaNet. You must accept this agreement to use AltaNet.
Next, you will be asked what directory should be used to store AltaNet components on your computer. Unless the location is significant to you, accept the default by choosing Next.
You will then be asked whether replaced files should be backed up and be given a directory where these will be stored. We recommend you back up replaced files and accept the defaults.
Installation status screens will appear briefly as the installation progresses, but should not require any user input. |
Register for AltaNet
Once installation is complete, you will be asked to register as
an AltaNet user. Registration is required for both free
trial users and full users. Once you complete your
registration, you will be given a user name and password that allows
you access to the AltaNet system.
A free trial user can upgrade to a registered user by simply registering as a full user. Remember, free trial users are able to perform edits on their claims, but the claims will not be sent to be paid unless they register as full users.
Once installation and registration is completed, you can begin sending claims by clicking on the AltaClaims icon on your desktop or on your start menu. Logging in to the AltaNet website does not upload claims by itself.
